Feedback/Revisions

After receiving feedback about my project from the class, I realized there are some things in my magazine that I can revise and improve. On the cover, I need to make "trials" one word on the same line, instead of having a hyphen. On the table of contents, I need to work on making the headlines more symmetrical, especially with the spacing of the page numbers. I also need to change a few things within the article. I plan to make the background white, because it was suggested that the blue background will be costly. I also need to justify the columns and add a picture to the second page of the article, which will both make the article more appealing to the eye. I also realized that I did not include any page numbers or branding, which I will need to add to each page. Overall, I received a lot of feedback that I will use to improve my magazine.

Use of Conventions

This project uses and challenges conventions of the sports genre in many ways. Some conventions of the sports genre that my magazine uses would be the pictures and fonts. The pictures that sports magazines typically use are action shots or pictures of athletes posing with sports gear. My magazine uses both of these types of pictures. Another convention of sports magazines is the use of big, bold fonts. The fonts in my magazine, especially on the cover and table of contents, are big and bold so that they can stand out from the rest of the page.
My project also challenges some conventions of the sports genre. One convention of sports magazines that my project challenges is color scheme. Sports magazines will usually use a color scheme of 2-3 bright colors. However, my magazine uses mostly lighter blues, and all of the fonts are either white, black, or both.
The social group that my project represents is swimmers. I think that this magazine would have the most significance to someone who understands the sport well. However, it could be helpful and interesting for almost anyone, especially other athletes, people who want to learn about swimming, or people who are considering starting to play a sport.
While there are not many issues in sports magazines, I found that many articles tend to leave out details to glorify their sport instead of giving the full story and hurting the sport's reputation. A goal for my project was to give the truth about swimming. Like all intense sports, swimming can be a lot of fun, but it can also be physically and emotionally straining. I wanted my magazine to present the full details of swimming.
